While SIEM adoption is on the rise and technology has improved, a Gartner report released in August estimates that 20 percent to 30 percent of SIEM deployments fail. Most failed SIEM deployments are the result of inadequate planning and a lack of understanding about SIEM technology. When organizations feed all of their data into the SIEM system, they aren’t prepared when the system begins producing alerts. Because many alerts are false positives, they are eventually ignored. This can lead to a breach that could have been prevented, or a wasted investment because SIEM technology is unused.
